Run a live poll

Ask a room a question and watch the answers arrive, in about two minutes.

Steps

  1. Create a session

On "Your sessions", give it a name — whatever helps you find it later — and press "Create". A session holds all the questions for one meeting, class or event.

  2. Add a question

Press "Add a question" and choose Multiple choice. Type the question, then the options people can pick from. Give every option a label: a blank one shows up as a button with nothing on it.

  3. Start the session

Open "Make it live for everyone" and press "Start session". Do this before you show the code: a code typed in beforehand is not held for later — the person is told the session has not started and has to enter it again.

  4. Get the room in

The join code and a QR sit at the top of the session page, and on the presenter view if you press "Open presenter view" to put it on a screen. People scan the code or type the seven digits at the join page. They need no account, no app and no email address.

  5. Show the question

Press "Show this question". It appears on every phone at once, and the results build as answers arrive.

  6. Close it and move on

To stop taking answers but leave the result up while you talk about it, press "Stop accepting answers". "Close question" finishes it and clears the projected screen; "Next question" moves straight on.

  7. End the session

Press "End session" when you are done. You get a summary of what happened and a recap link you can share with people who were there. Downloading the results as a CSV is part of the paid plan.

Worth knowing

  • Questions run in the order you add them, and that order cannot be changed afterwards — so add them in the order you mean to ask them.
  • A question's type is fixed once you have shown it or once anyone has answered it. Before that you can still change it, and your wording and options are kept.
  • A session that has ended cannot be restarted. To run the same questions with a new group, create a new session.
  • Running out of your monthly participant allowance never interrupts a session that has already started.
