Run a quiz

Timed, scored questions with a leaderboard between rounds, for teaching or for fun.

Steps

  1. Create a session and add a Quiz question

    Press "Add a question" and choose Quiz. It looks like multiple choice, with one important difference: one of the options is the right answer.

  2. Mark the correct answer

    Every quiz question needs one. If you have not marked one, saving will tell you so — and a quiz question without a right answer cannot be scored.

  3. Set a countdown, if you want one

    A timer makes a quiz feel like a quiz, and stops one person holding up the room. Answering faster scores more, so a countdown rewards knowing the answer rather than working it out.

  4. Ask for a screen name

    Turn on "Ask for a screen name" in Session settings before anyone joins. Without it every score on the leaderboard is anonymous. The name only ever appears against a score — answers are never attributed, and the results you download identify nobody.

  5. Put the results where the room can see them

    Press "Open presenter view" and put that window on the screen the room is looking at. It is built to be read from the back, and it keeps the join code up so latecomers can still get in.

  6. Start, and run the questions in order

    Press "Start session", then "Show this question" for each one. The countdown starts when you show it, not when someone opens their phone, so everyone gets the same time.

  7. Close each question to settle it

    Press "Stop accepting answers" when the time is up. The result stays on screen and the right answer is marked on it — nobody can answer any more, so there is nothing left to protect. That is the moment to talk about why it was right.

  8. Show the standings between rounds

    Press "Close question". The projected screen goes back to the leaderboard, which is the pause where a room looks up — then "Show this question" for the next one.

  9. End and share the recap

    Press "End session" for the summary and a recap link people can look at afterwards. Downloading the results as a CSV is part of the paid plan.

Worth knowing

  • Correct and incorrect are always shown with a word and a symbol, never colour alone.
  • Answering sooner scores more, so a question with a countdown rewards quick answers as well as right ones.
  • Rows do not re-sort while answers arrive, so the option someone is watching stays where it was.
  • The leaderboard shows the top ten, and people who share a score share a position rather than being split arbitrarily.
